Being the top board game stores in the Hamilton area definitely has it’s perks. Having such a large pool of gamers able to come in and make your store their store allows for almost anyone to flourish in Hamilton’s barren market. With a total of 3 stores for the entire city, you would almost think it could not fail but it is the community they build and the customer service they provide that keeps people coming back and making it a great store. When you walk into the store you are almost hit by this sense of nostalgia, like going back to your childhood store. Groups of people playing in the back of the store, their miniatures and cards out. The walls jam packed with games modern and from your past. A friendly greeting at the door and you’re already halfway in and looking at their shelves.

It's when you have spent a few minutes walking around that you realize that this is a great little shop and it offers a huge amount of amenities. A small painting station near the register allows for people to come in and sit down and work on their miniatures or decks with the staff to gain insight and support. They have a huge number of tables, about half the store dedicated to it for gaming on. Most of these are more for deck and board games where you would sit down but there are a plenty of tables for miniature related games. And the scenery they offer, amazing. It has to be one of the best table set up in the Greater Toronto Area let alone the best in Hamilton. With the ability to rent out rooms in the back for what looks like private events and borrow games off their wall to play, it rounds out the entire place making it feel very social.

And social they are.

Black Knight runs many events on a weekly basis, (Check out our events page to see) with some nights hosting up to four events running at a time. Mostly it is games you would expect to see at stores like this, Magic the Gathering and Pokemon but it is nice to see that they host games you would not like Games Workshop and Game of Thrones LCG. It allows people who enjoy other game genres to enjoy a night out. As well, they tend to host a lot of one off nights on Saturday’s, so there is a bit of a mix up in their schedule to keep it fresh. One thing we did notice when we were there is that for the Summer of 2017 they are hosting a Game Camp for three weeks for kids. This is something we did not see before in a game store and believe it is a good move on their part. It allows for kids to get into the gaming world which allows them to build a greater community for now and in the future.

The Breakdown

They offer great service with great events! Their service is friendly and knowledgeable and the store rocks the market in the Hamilton area. If I lived in Hamilton, you would probably see me in their weekly for sure.
